Ingredients
4 small onions
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup breadcrumbs
Cooking spray
Instructions
-
Peel and cut off the tops of the onions. Slice them into petals, leaving the root intact.
-
In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and buttermilk together.
-
Dip each onion in the flour mixture, followed by the egg mixture, and coat with breadcrumbs.
-
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the onions with a light coating of cooking spray.
-
Place the onions in the air fryer and cook for 15-20 minutes, checking at 15 minutes to avoid overcooking.
-
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
To add spice, mix cayenne pepper into the flour mixture.
You can stuff the onions with shredded cheese before breading for an extra gooey surprise.
For a vegetarian version, use plant-based buttermilk and vegan-friendly breadcrumbs.
